Purdy leads 49ers past Commanders 37-20 for eighth straight victory.

THE NINTH DOWN STOPS

In the first half, both teams were stopped on fourth down in the red zone.

On its opening drive, San Francisco advanced to the 15 when David Mayo stopped Christian McCaffrey for no gain on a fourth-and-1 pitch from fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

Early in the second quarter, Antonio Gibson was stopped on fourth down by Fred Warner and Javon Kinlaw, cutting Washington’s lead to one.

On fourth and 1 from their own 34 in the third quarter, the Commanders were once more stopped.
