Panthers outperformed the Lions in a 37-23 defeat.
The Panthers completely outplayed Detroit in all areas, including their poor tackling, inability to fill gaps in the Panthers’ run game, inability to create openings for their own offensive run game, and overall performance. The Panthers, who have postseason aspirations and a chance to win the NFC South, were coming off a loss to Pittsburgh last week.
CHARLOTTE – Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell had few explanations for why his club, with only three weeks left in the regular season and a playoff drive on the line, played such flat football in a 37-23 loss to Carolina on Saturday.
Campbell noted after the game, “They came after us fairly good there. “That is a difficult concept to grasp. You say things, but when you play that way, the blame eventually rests on me. I hadn’t prepared them for departure.”
With so much on the line for the Lions, Carolina appeared to be the side that was more physically and mentally tenacious. The defence for Detroit performed sloppily and was out-thought.
Veteran defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs stated after the game, “Like Dan said, that was a hungry ass squad we played. “We didn’t arrive prepared to play; they did. In the NFL, any club can lose any game at any time. If you’re not prepared or tuned in, you risk getting beat, which is what occurred today. Despite being the superior squad, we didn’t play as such tonight.”
The Chicago Bears (3-12), who just suffered a defeat to Buffalo, will be the opponents when the Lions return home to Ford Field. Detroit now finds itself in a predicament where it must win both of its upcoming games. Against Chicago and Green Bay after losing on Saturday.
The fact that Carolina wanted the game more on Saturday was clear from the opening play to the final play, so let’s hope Campbell has them much more prepared to play.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the newest Lions wide receiver to have a season with 1,000 yards receiving.
St. Brown has surpassed Calvin Johnson’s previous record of 23 years, 69 days old, who held it previously.
St. Brown is only 23 years, 61 days old. In team history, He is one of only 3 players age 23 or younger to have a 1,000-yard season, along with Germane Crowell (1999), Johnson (2008), and St.
has 96 receptions for 1,050 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season after catching 7 passes for 76 yards.
St. Brown, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 selection, is now regarded as the biggest steal of that group. He is only the third NFL athlete to have 90 or more receptions in each of his first two seasons.

OKUDAH’S ACTIVITY
Jeff Okudah, a cornerback, didn’t play his best on Saturday. Okudah missed a few tackles, which led to a significant pass that helped create a touchdown. In the second half, Mike Hughes eventually took his spot.
Campbell stated, “We just wanted to get Mike in there.” “Mike is skilled in a few things that he can do for us. He may enter and squeeze while running. He’s a solid corner and extremely sticky in man coverage. You see, Jeff is good. Because things happen, Jeff will bounce back and be prepared to go.”
PLUS POINTS
DJ Chark, a wide receiver for the Lions, had four grabs for 108 yards during the defeat. It’s Chark’s first 100-yard performance since the 2020 season and his fifth overall. In three of his last four games, he has recorded at least 90 receiving yards.
On Sam Darnold on Saturday, the Lions’ defence failed to register a single sack or quarterback hit.
